The billionaire who founded the company Jared Isaacman is deep in training for the initial start of the Polaris program in collaboration with Elon Musk's SpaceX.
Four members of Isaacman's team are flying fighter jets - including the aircraft from the personal collection of his - in preparation for the launch of the very first mission dubbed Polaris Dawn.
"We are looking to utilize as much time before launch for training as much as we can," "using fighter aircraft can be a great analogue" in spaceflight.
Astronauts are awestruck by fighter planes and the billionaire CEO Jared Isaacman is no different.
Isaacman who was the founder of the company that deals in payments, Shift4 together in partnership with Elon Musk's SpaceX is currently in the process of training his crew to prepare for the first space flight under the Polaris program that was announced earlier this year.
Isaacman's crew of four are flying fighter jets, which include aircraft from his personal fleet in preparation to take off into orbit for the very first mission known as Polaris Dawn.
Space travel isn't something we can do frequently. There are too many ideas that are involved in a space flight," Isaacman told CNBC's Morgan Brennan at an airfield in Bozeman, Montana.
"We would like to make use of the most time prior to launch for training as much as possible," Isaacman said, saying the idea that "using fighter planes can be an excellent analogy" for spaceflight.
Polaris Dawn was initially slated for the fourth quarter of 2022, Isaacman said, adding that the launch of the mission is anticipated to occur "early in the coming year".
