Frontier Airlines recently in talks with SpaceX about the possibility of adding Starlink Wi-Fi

Frontier Airlines "recently" discussed with SpaceX regarding the possibility of adding Starlink Satellite Internet service on its aircrafts.

The company is more confident about introducing the product than in previous years, the CEO of the carrier told CNBC on Thursday.

The addition of Wi-Fi by Starlink would represent a change from the low-cost carrier that currently doesn't offer in-flight Internet service.

The CEO Barry Biffle says leaving Wi-Fi for the time being helps the airline be "greener" as it limits the weight that can be carried onboard.

SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk's SpaceX, is currently expanding the Starlink broadband network. It comprises greater than 3000 satellites orbiting as of now and includes a total of 500,000 customers -- the majority of whom are individuals.

In June, the FCC granted permission to SpaceX to offer the mobile Starlink Internet service to boats aircrafts, trucks and planes.

The company recently concluded a contract with the cruise ship line Royal Caribbean.
